Many years ago, some good friends, a married couple, invited me to celebrate their baby’s first birthday. But, the theme wasn’t so much about the baby, as it was their relief to have survived the first year as parents. I wrote this little poem as a reality check.
Surviving the 1st
by Andy Bozeman ©1986-2015
Once upon a time,
There were two little children,
Who raised up a child of their own.
They treated it fair,
They gave it good care,
They let it stay right in their home.
But, as it grew older,
It also grew bolder,
On confusion and chaos it thrived.
Of their mind and soul,
It did take full control.
It let them just think they’d survived.
